Aftercare Instructions
Follow these steps to protect your investment and keep your tattoo looking its best.
A new tattoo is an open wound — proper aftercare is essential for healing and preserving the quality of your ink. Follow these instructions carefully for the first few weeks.
The First 24 Hours
- Leave the bandage or wrap applied by your artist on for at least 2–4 hours, or as directed.
- When removing the bandage, wash your hands thoroughly first.
- Gently wash the tattoo with lukewarm water and a fragrance-free, mild soap using your fingertips.
- Pat dry with a clean paper towel — do not rub.
- Apply a thin layer of unscented moisturizer or the aftercare product recommended by your artist.
Days 2–14: The Healing Phase
- Wash the tattoo 2–3 times daily with mild, fragrance-free soap and lukewarm water.
- Moisturize with a thin layer of unscented lotion after each wash.
- Avoid soaking the tattoo — no swimming, baths, or hot tubs.
- Keep the tattoo out of direct sunlight. If you must be outside, cover it with clothing.
- Do not pick, scratch, or peel any flaking skin — let it fall off naturally.
- Wear loose, breathable clothing over the tattooed area to avoid irritation.
Long-Term Care
- Once fully healed, apply SPF 30+ sunscreen whenever the tattoo is exposed to sunlight.
- Keep skin moisturized regularly to maintain vibrancy.
- Avoid prolonged sun exposure, which can fade ink over time.
What to Avoid
- Do not use petroleum-based products (like Vaseline) on a fresh tattoo.
- Avoid alcohol-based products, which can dry out and damage healing skin.
- Never re-wrap a tattoo after the initial bandage is removed unless instructed by your artist.
